Bobby Joe Smitherman, age 63 of Clanton, passed away on Oct. 24, 2011, at Shelby Baptist Medical Center in Alabaster.

He was born April 29, 1948, in Chilton County, the son of the late Elijah Smitherman and the late Ruby Hand Smitherman.

Mr. Smitherman was a residential painter.

He is survived by: wife, Norma Jean Smitherman of Clanton; son, Steven Oneal Cleckler of Jemison; son, Terry Lee Ellison of Clanton; son, Ronny Joe Smitherman of Clanton; son, Billy Joe Smitherman of Clanton; son, Tony Dewayne Smitherman of Clanton; four grandchildren; one great grandchild; sister, Mildred Littleton of Clanton; sister, Betty Edwards of Clanton; sister, Frances Johnson of Clanton; brother, Kelvin Smitherman of Jemison; and brother, Dovard Smitherman of Clanton.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Oct. 26 at 2 p.m. from the Memorial Chapel of Ellison-Mims Funeral Home with the Rev. Jeff Mims and the Rev. Kelvin Smitherman officiating.

Burial followed in New Hope Baptist Cemetery in Jemison.
