An 18-year-old Jemison woman died Monday in a three-vehicle wreck on Highway 22.

Callie Samya, 18, a 2011 Jemison High School graduate, was killed in the wreck, which occurred about 10:30 a.m., near West End Baptist Church and a Chevron fuel station.

Samya was a student at the University of Montevallo.

One other motorist was injured in the wreck, Stilwell said. He was transported by ambulance to Shelby Baptist Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

According to a preliminary report by the Clanton Police Department, it appeared the Samya was turning from Second Avenue North onto Fourth Avenue North, or Highway 22, when she clipped the trailer of a tractor-trailer traveling westbound.

The impact spun her red sports utility vehicle into the opposite lane of traffic, where it was struck by a pickup truck traveling eastbound. The driver of the pickup also sustained injuries.

Stilwell said the wreck is under investigation by David Hicks, CPD’s certified traffic investigator.

The fatality is the first traffic-related death inside Clanton city limits in the past year, Stilwell said.
