Curtis Gwyn Smith, 74, of Clanton died Saturday, October 8, 2011 at Chilton Medical Center, Clanton.

He was born Wednesday, June 9, 1937, in Alabama, son of the late Frank Abbott and the late Marie Cox Abbott.

He was a truck driver.

He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1956 to 1961 as an aircraft maintenance technician.  He loved Alabama football and the Blue Angel Flyers and the Thunderbirds.

Surviving are his wife, Reba Smith of Clanton; three sons, Dickie Smith of Clanton, Timothy (Amy) Robinson of Alabaster and Eric (Amanda) Robinson of Dover, Tenn.; daughter, Teresa (Sly) Vlach of Pensacola, Fla.; two sisters, Phyllis (Smoky) Manning of Prattville and Cookie Dennis of Prattville; brother, Bill (Cathy) Abbott of Keller, Texas; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and an abundance of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Marie Abbott; and first wife, Helen Dooley Smith.

Graveside services were held Monday, Oct. 10 at 2 p.m. at Chestnut Creek Cemetery with the Rev. Jim Shannon officiating.
