Jemison High School’s homecoming this year will feature maids and the queen crowned before Friday’s game against Southside-Selma, and a “black out” during the game itself.

The homecoming ceremony will begin at 6:15 p.m., and the game kicks off at 7 p.m. at Panther Stadium.

Jemison fans are encouraged to wear black to the game to create a unique atmosphere.

Homecoming candidates include:

•Homecoming queen (12th grade): Alyson Childress, Shana Driver, Chaniece Hicks, Haley Wood and Wendy Waldrop.

•11th grade: Courtney Evans, Summer Raines, Makenzie Ray and Jill Vinzant.

•10th grade: Savannah Brackin, Yo Yo Camarillo, Morgan Lucas, Tayler Mazingo and Yasmine Stoudemire.

•Ninth grade: Sarah Brantley, Lauren Crosby, Shelbie Robinson and Mikala Thornton.

•Eighth grade: Kelsey Mitchell, Kelsea Smith, Asia Davidson and Megan Jackson.

JHS students participated in dress-up days this week to promote homecoming spirit. Monday was “Wacky Tacky Day,” Tuesday was “Twin Day,” Wednesday was “Holi-Day” (dress was pertaining to students’ favorite holidays), Thursday is “Rest Up for the Game Day” (students wear pajamas), and Friday is “Black Out Day.”

Also, each classroom decorated its door with a homecoming theme, one of which was “Believe in Heroes: What lies ahead of you is nothing compared to what lies within you,” in honor of JHS graduate Donny Eslinger, who was injured while serving the United States military in Afghanistan.
