Helen L. Shelnut

Helen L. Shelnut, 75, of Powder Springs, Ga., formerly of Thorsby and Birmingham, passed away Sept. 24, 2011.

She was born Nov. 11, 1935, in Birmingham to the late Evan Morrison and Louise Reid Morrison and was preceded in death by her brother Frank Morrison and grandsons Josh and Noah Shelnut. Mrs. Shelnut was a homemaker and a member of Thorsby First Baptist Church. She loved her grandchildren, her Braves and, most of all, her Alabama Crimson Tide football team.

Survived by her husband of 60 years, Oneal Shelnut of Powder Springs, Ga.; sons, Danny and his wife Heather Shelnut of Cumming, Ga., David and Karen Shelnut of North Carolina, Darrell and Tammy Shelnut of Powder Springs, Ga.; daughters, Donna and her husband Terry Lee of Albany, Ga., Renee and her husband Terry Strain-Lacey of Dallas, Ga.; brother, Curtis and his wife Peggy Morrison of Thorsby; 17 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

Graveside services were held Tuesday, Sept. 27 at 2:45 p.m. CST from Croft Acton Cemetery, with the Rev. Wade Acton officiating. The family received friends at Clark Funeral Home of Hiram, Ga. from 5-8 p.m. EST on Monday, Sept. 26 and also on Tuesday at the graveside from 1 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. CST.
