Get it over: Isabella’s Heather Posey (above, right) passes the ball during Thursday’s match while Jemison’s Shelby Griffin lurks at the net.

The Isabella volleyball desperately needed Thursday’s 3-0 win over Jemison.

The Mustangs had been dominant most of the season, holding steady at No. 6 in the Class 2A rankings, but since Sept. 15, IHS lost six of eight matches.

So the smiles on the faces of the Isabella players were surely good to see for coach Glen Graham.

Thursday’s win (25-14, 25-18, 25-12) at rival Jemison might yield a turnaround for Isabella.

The visitors won the first set easily but fell behind 5-0 in the second set.

There was nothing to fear, as Allison Mims’ ace on a jump serve moments later made it 17-10 Isabella.

The Panthers fought back and kept it close, but they fell in that set and went quietly in the third.

Savannah Kissel, Hayden Compton and Khadijah Craig each had nine kills for Isabella.

Kissel also had five aces and four digs, and Compton added three blocks.

Heather Posey (15 assists) and Amber Flanagan (12 assists) shared setting duties.

Mims finished with 16 digs and nine aces.

Lauren Price had 10 assists for Jemison.

Morgan Lucas tallied seven digs, and Shelby Griffin had three kills and two blocks.

Isabella visits Chelsea beginning at 5 p.m. on Sept. 27. Jemison hosts Bibb County beginning at 6 p.m. on Sept. 26.
