Two men have been arrested on drug charges following a search last week at a Clanton apartment.

Clanton police department narcotics detectives executed a search warrant at a unit at Rolling Oaks Apartments on Sept. 14.

The search found substances believed to be marijuana and crack cocaine, according to Police Chief Brian Stilwell.

Darrius Houston, 24, and Kenyon Floyd, 20, were both arrested at the apartment.

Stilwell said during the past several weeks, Clanton detectives had been conducting surveillance on the apartment and had purchased illegal narcotics while undercover.

Houston, who was already out on bond for distribution charges, was charged with two counts of unlawful distribution of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of a controlled substance and is currently in the Chilton County Jail without bond.

Floyd was charged with unlawful distribution of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of marijuana and is currently out on $25,750 bond.

“When our warrant service team hit the door, they were playing PlayStation Madden Football and completely surprised,” Stilwell said. “Our agency has arrested Mr. Houston on several occasions, and it looks like we are finally going to be able to keep him behind bars for a while.”

Stilwell said his department is handling dozens of drugs complaints throughout the city.

“It might take us a little time because we are outnumbered, but we eventually get them,” he said.
