Funeral services for Mr. Joseph Thomas Roberts Jr. “Tom,” 45, of Alexander City will be Sunday, Sept. 4, 2011 at 2 p.m. at Alexander City First United Methodist Church. Dr. T. Michael Morgan and Dr. Bill Etheridge will officiate.

The family will receive friends at First United Methodist Church from 1-2 p.m. prior to the memorial service. Burial will follow at Clanton City Cemetery in Clanton. Mr. Roberts passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, Sept. 2, 2011. He was born on March 2, 1966 in Alexander City to Elinor Warr Roberts and Joseph Thomas Roberts Sr. He was a member of Alexander City First United Methodist Church. Tom was an avid and talented tennis player, well known on the local and state level and received several tennis scholarships to colleges. Tom loved the outdoors, especially fishing, and boating on Lake Martin.

He is survived by his son, Joseph Brandon Roberts, 16, of Alexander City, his mother, Elinor Warr Roberts, of Alexander City, sisters, Jebb Roberts Blankenship of Alexander City and Alice Roberts Sheffield of Birmingham, and his brother, Edwin Hebson Roberts of Alexander City. Other survivors include his aunt and uncle, Dr. and Mrs. Lloyd C. Warr, nieces Abby Blankenship and Shelley Sheffield, cousins Chris and Leigh Warr and special friends Donna, Colleen and Lorene.

He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Thomas Roberts Sr., his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd C. Warr of Clanton, Mr. and Mrs. Erle B. Roberts of Alexander City, and his cousin, Lloyd Martin Warr of Alexander City.
