Artie Hicks, 77, of Clanton died Monday, Sept. 12, 2011, at Shelby Baptist Medical Center in Alabaster.

He was born on Thursday, July 5, 1934, in Chilton County, son of the late James Rufus Hicks and the late Nellie Chandler Hicks.

He was a farmer.

Surviving are his wife, Eunice Minor Hicks of Clanton; four sons, Ricky Artie (Sandra) Hicks of Clanton, Terry Eugene (Vickie) Hicks of Clanton, Richard Allen Hicks of Clanton and Rufus Jimmy (Tabitha) Hicks of Clanton; daughter, Melissa Diane (Mark) Knight of Clanton; 13 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild; and two sisters, Rosie Bell Ivy of Clanton and Ruby Riche of Tuscaloosa.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James Rufus and Nellie Chandler

Hicks; brother, James Rufus (Jack) Hicks; and sister, Rosie Nell Wyatt.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 15 at Glad Tidings Church of God with the Rev. Robert W. Barnes, the Rev. Mike Cleckler and the Rev. Greg Jones officiating.

Interment will follow in Glad Tidings Cemetery in Clanton.
