The Chilton County Board of Education will hold the first of two public hearings concerning the 2011-2012 budget at 4 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 8 at the Central Office in Clanton.

The second hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 20 at 4 p.m. at the Central Office.

Chilton County School Superintendent Dave Hayden said the hearings are open to everyone like all of the Board of Education meetings.

“We kind of put together a budget for the upcoming year, but we’re required by law to have two hearings on it,” Hayden said. “We will take any input from board members.”

Hayden said the 2010-2011 budget was about $74 million.

“After the hearings, (the budget) is subject to amendments as we go along,” Hayden said, “but it will be put in place.”

Hayden said the public hearings are simply a chance for formal in-house discussion of the budget before the board passes it.

“Any member of the public is welcome,” Hayden said.

The Central Office is located at 1705 Lay Dam Road in Clanton.
