Mamie Lillian Burkhalter, 95, of Opelika died Thursday, Aug. 25, 2011, at Bethany House in Opelika.

She was born Friday, May 12, 1916, in Chilton County, daughter of the late John DeVaughn and the late Effie Deloach DeVaughn.

She was a homemaker.

Surviving are her son, John E. (Jeanne) Burkhalter of Opelika; two grandsons, J. Scott Burkhalter of Waverly Hall, Ga. and Britt Holbrook of Melbourne, Fla.; five granddaughters, Gwen Epling of Opelika, Karen Bennett of Eufaula, Selena Day of Auburn, Kimberly Wilson of Rockledge, Fla., and Canada Burkhalter of Tupelo, Miss.; 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and sister, Jennell Mims of Prattville.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence M. Burkhalter; and daughter, Doris Holbrook.

Friends will be received from 2-3 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 27 at Bethany Baptist Church.

Services will be held Saturday, Aug. 27 at 3 p.m. at Bethany Baptist Church with the Rev. Aubry Wallace and the Rev. Steve Vickers officiating.

Interment will follow in Bethany Baptist Cemetery, Verbena, Alabama.
