Thorsby tops Blocton in four sets

Thorsby’s volleyball team defeated West Blocton on Tuesday, 3-1 (25-19, 23-25, 25-21, 25-12).

Emily Spain assisted on 17 points and had four assists.

Sade’ Archie had 14 kills and six aces, and Jackie Holcomb aced West Blocton eight times.

Desiree Evans contributed four aces and three kills, and Jennifer Spivey had five aces and three kills.

The Rebels fell to Montevallo, 3-0 (25-10, 27-25, 25-10), on Monday, two days after finishing fourth in the Super Saturday Tournament, which the Rebels hosted at Jemison’s Alton Cobb Gymnasium.

“Overall, there were several bright spots,” THS coach Ginger Williams said of the Montevallo match. “However, we never reached the communication level we had the first matches of the season. To me, that is the most important thing for our team. When we communicate constantly, we cut out a lot of the unnecessary errors.

“Defensively, we looked very good, but we struggled on serve receive because we lacked communication. We were scrappy and made some big plays, but in order for us to win, we must communicate all the time.

The Rebels lost to Marbury, 2-0; defeated Vincent, 2-0; lost to Jemison, 2-1; and lost to Sylacauga, 2-1, in the tournament.
