Isabella volleyball coach Glen Graham said he’s trying to get his Mustangs to believe in themselves.

They’re off to a good start.

IHS is 6-0 on the season after winning a tournament they hosted Saturday.

“I’m trying to get them to believe because we lost so many players (from last year’s team),” Graham said.

The remaining Mustangs have done just fine. They defeated Sidney Lanier, 2-0 (25-21, 25-20); Leeds, 2-0 (25-23, 25-18); and Shelby County, 2-1 (21-25, 25-13, 15-13), on Saturday before facing Leeds again in the championship game, which IHS won, 2-0 (25-12, 25-22).

Savannah Kissel and Landy Griffith paced the Isabella attack with 17 kills each in the tournament. Kissel also had nine aces and seven blocks, and Griffith had five digs, three blocks and two aces.

Hayden Compton recorded 14 kills and eight blocks. Khadijah Craig had 13 aces, seven kills and one block.

Setter Heather Posey assisted on 31 points and also had three aces and two kills.

Allison Mims had 25 digs to go along with 11 aces and four kills.
