Joyce Lavern Valentine Bowman, age 82 of Clanton, passed away on Aug. 21, 2011, at her residence.

She was born on Feb. 19, 1929, in Jefferson County, the daughter of the late Henry Valentine and the late Ina White Valentine.

She worked in the clerical department of American Life Insurance Company.

She is survived by: daughter, Janet (Clarence) Capps of Clanton; son, Butch Bowman of Clanton; granddaughter, Joy (Chris) Ballenger of Streamwood, Ill.; granddaughter, Jill (Greg) Dykes of Smokerise; granddaughter, Julie (Duane) Sak of Florence; along with seven great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, Aug. 25 from 6-8 p.m. at Ellison-Mims Funeral Home.

Graveside funeral services will be held on Friday, Aug. 26 at 11 a.m. in Elmwood Cemetery in Birmingham with the Rev. Brad Lightsey officiating.

The family requests no flowers but that memorial contributions be sent to the Alzheimer’s foundation.
