The Mental Health Board of Chilton and Shelby Counties, Inc. will host its annual public board meeting on Aug. 10.

The meeting will give the public a chance to hear Zelia Baugh, commissioner of the Alabama Department of Mental Health, discuss mental health at the state level.

Chilton-Shelby Mental Health Center CEO Melodie Crawford said the meeting will be an excellent opportunity for anyone curious about the state’s mental health policies to come and learn. She also said an overview of the center’s services for the next two years would be discussed.

“We invite all public officials and anyone from the community,” she said. “Anyone who wants to hear [Baugh] address the board about what is going on with mental health at the federal, state and local levels.”

The Chilton-Shelby Medical center is made up of the mental illness, intellectual disability, and substance abuse divisions. As the name implies, the center serves both Chilton and Shelby Counties.

“Last year we served approximately 4,000 people in Chilton and Shelby counties,” she said.

The Center is located of U.S. Highway 31, south of Calera. For more information on the center or the meeting, call 205-668-4308.
