The Chilton-Clanton Public Library, Jemison Public Library and Maplesville Library are offering amnesty for people who return overdue materials during the month of August.

Library officials hope the amnesty month will have people bring back items that might not otherwise because of late fees,  said Chilton-Clanton library director Kelly Easterling.

The Chilton-Clanton branch has approximately 3,500 materials missing, totaling approximately $40,000 – $45,000 worth of books, movies and audio books.

“We’re asking everyone to bring the materials back and we’ll take the fines off,” said Easterling. “They will be able to access the library again, and we will have the materials — it’s a win-win for everyone.”
