A Clanton man was arrested over the weekend and charged with robbery in connection to an incident on Martin Luther King Jr. Street.

Officers received a 911 call Friday around 4:30 p.m. that a victim was held up at gunpoint by two males. The victim told police that one of the men got into his truck and stuck a gun in his side, taking an undisclosed amount of money.

Clanton Police Detective Robert Bland worked the case, which quickly led to Gerron Reed being identified as a suspect and arrested within a half hour at a home on Second Avenue.

Reed was charged with first-degree robbery and possession of marijuana. He was placed in the Chilton County Jail on $30,750 bond.

Officers said similar robberies have occurred in this area this month.

“This is the third such armed robbery in this same area this month,” said Police Chief Brian Stilwell. “We will be stepping up our patrols in the area.”

Detectives are still investigating the case and looking for the other suspect in the robbery. Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact Detective Robert Bland at (205) 755-1194, ext. 317 or the department’s secret witness line at (205) 755-1416.
