Lions Club holds annual banquet

Don Hand was named the Clanton Lions Club Member of the Year Monday night during the club’s annual Ladies Night banquet.
Hand organized the East-West All-Star Baseball game for the past two years and chaired the Lions’ program committee, which was responsible for getting speakers for the club’s weekly meetings.
“He did a great job — a wonderful job,” said outgoing president Tony Hughes.
Several other awards were given during the banquet at Alabama Power Company’s Conference Center in Clanton.
Two members were honored for 50 years of club membership, Donny Martin and Dan Mims.
All members to receive service pins were: Dan Mims, 50 years; Donny Martin, 50 years; Richard Moore, 30 years; H.C. Johnson, 25 years; Steve Mims, 25 years; Bob Stone, 25 years; Bobby Lane, 20 years; Steve Forrest, 20 years; Tommy Patterson, 15 years; Britt Culpepper, 10 years; and Tony Hughes, 5 years.
Members not present Monday but also honored for years of membership were: Richard Davis, 35 years; Ken Patterson, 25 years; Ray Scruggs, 15 years; and Jeff Price, 10 years.
New club officers were also sworn in Monday. They include: Britt Culpepper, president; Wayne Caton, first vice president; Hollis Jackson, second vice president; Tyson Elrod, third vice president; Justin Averette, secretary; Ray Price, treasurer; Cecil Williams, tail twister; and Tommy Patterson, membership chairman. Board members include: Donny Martin, Tom Brown, Neal Bice and Don Hand.
