Twenty-three Chilton County School System employees were approved by the Board of Education at their meeting Tuesday.

Two Chilton County High School teachers were approved, four employees from Clanton Elementary School, one Clanton Intermediate school teacher, two Clanton Middle School employees and one Jemison High and one Jemison Middle School employee. Also, the board approved one Thorsby High teacher, four employees from Verbena High, one Central Office employee, two bus drivers and four Maplesville High School employees unanimously.

The board also unanimously approved the resignations of six employees from Clanton Elementary, Clanton Middle, Chilton County High, Maplesville and Jemison High schools.

“Three people resigned yesterday,” said Superintendent Dave Hayden. “We could have told them they couldn’t leave because it’s 30 days before the school year, but if they’re happy going somewhere else why make them stay?”

In other business, Hayden requested to have a meeting Tuesday, Aug. 2 at 4 p.m. to perform last-minute hiring before the school year begins.

Several people that were hired are moving to new positions, and it is leaving slots open, said Hayden.

“We have to post the openings for two weeks, then we can hire. There are still a few positions to be filled in August. It usually levels out. Hopefully, this will wrap it up.”

The board approved Hayden’s request to have a meeting Aug. 2 at 4 p.m. to perform last-minute hiring before the school year begins unanimously.

The board also approved a recommendation to transfer Myrna Manasco from Jemison Middle to Jemison Elementary as cafeteria assistant effective the 2011-2012 school year and a recommendation to approve the substitute employee list.

A recommendation to approve a federal programs request to provide an English learning parental involvement workshop during the month of July was also approved unanimously.
