New sheriff’s website includes sex offender map, news releases

Chilton County Sheriff Kevin Davis hopes his department’s new website will keep the public informed as well as lighten his staff’s workload.

The rebuilt chiltoncountyso.org, though still incomplete, offers county residents many new features, including an interactive map with every sex offender registered in the county.

Markers identify residences of sex offenders, and users can click on specific markers to get information about the corresponding sex offender—or look up offenders by name and see where they live.

“We’ve had a great response with that,” Davis said.

The website also features news releases and an option to sign up for email notifications when a release is posted.

Site users can also submit tips to the department through a link that lets them remain anonymous or include their contact information.

Part of the site—which was launched about two months ago and is hosted by Racon Marketing Group, the company that also maintains the county’s website—also could help the sheriff’s department staff.

Forms for pistol permits and employment can be opened and printed through the site, meaning those interested in obtaining those forms don’t have to visit the sheriff’s office in the Chilton County Courthouse.

“It’s still new; it’s still being worked on and still being built,” Davis said. “But we think it’s a great thing for the department and for the people of the county, a better way of obtaining information.”

Davis said plans have been made for the site to include an up-to-the-minute list of inmates and the Chilton County Jail, including bond amounts, and a calls for service map, which would show where sheriff’s deputies have worked cases in the past week or month.
