Thorsby’s Friday night Movies in the Park is off to a good start and running smoothly.

On opening night, 350 to 400 people were in attendance to view “Yogi Bear,” and about 250 people showed up the second week to view “Shrek Forever After” despite the rain and storm, said Thorsby Fire Chief Lee Gunn.

“Hopefully, this week it’s back to its regular crowd,” said Gunn.

Faith Chapel Baptist Church sponsored the first movie night and had hotdogs, chips and drinks. This week, a snow cone vendor will be present.

“Everything has gone really smooth this year,” said Gunn. “It’s our third year doing this so we have the bugs worked out.”

The movie “Megamind” will be shown next, on Friday, June 17 at 8 p.m. in Richard Wood Park.

“I’m really pleased with the crowd, and hopefully everything will continue to go fine,” said Gunn. “Bring your lawn chairs.”

No movie will be shown Friday, June 27 because of the Peach Jam, or July 3 because of the Fourth of July weekend.
