Obie Joe Littleton

Obie Joe Littleton, of Clanton, died May 16, 2011, at the age of 79.

He was born to the late George and Sarah Littleton, Sept. 15, 1931, in Jemison.

Obie graduated from Jemison High School.  He was married to Georgia (Joy) Littleton.

Obie was a member of the First Baptist Church of Clanton.  Obie was the City of Clanton Building Inspector and Economic Developer for 28 years, until his retirement in 2007.  Through his devotion to recruiting new industry, Obie was a member of the Chilton County Industrial Development Board, and also served as past president of Chilton County Chamber of Commerce, Alabama Jaycees, and Clanton Lions Club for 44 years.

Obie was elected for two terms as Senator to the Alabama Legislature. He was recently honored by the Calera Lodge No. 445 Masons of Alabama for 50 years of service.

He is survived by his wife, Georgia (Joy) Littleton; and his three daughters, Rhonda Reynolds (Sibley) of Clanton, Alabama; Gay Niven (Earl Jr.) of Chelsea, Alabama; and LeeAnn Gregory (Keith) of Frisco, Texas.  Obie is also survived by his seven grandchildren; Mary Beth (Wes) Wyatt of Clanton, Alabama; Mac Reynolds of Clanton, Alabama; Denise Niven and Sam Niven of Chelsea, Alabama; Spencer Gregory, Lilly Gregory, and Georgia Gregory of Frisco, Texas.  He is survived by his brothers; Oneil Littleton of Clanton, Alabama; Orville (Leah) Littleton of Hoover, Alabama; Odis Littleton of Calera, Alabama; and sisters; Olys Nell Horton of Jemison, Alabama; Olean Bratton (Richard) of Mableton, Georgia; OrmaJean Mims of Jemison, Alabama; and many nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received from 6-8 p.m., Wednesday, May 18 at Martin Funeral Home Chapel.

Services will be held Thursday, May 19 at 1 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Clanton with the Rev. Matt DeBord officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Chilton County Humane Society, P.O. Box 444, Clanton, AL 35046.
