East-West baseball exhibition to include three teams

The annual East-West Baseball game will take on a new format this year.

Usually, two teams (East and West) play a doubleheader, but this year three teams (Chilton, Autauga and Shelby counties) will play a combined three exhibition games.

“I think that will be a little more competition,” said Don Hand, organizer of the event and member of the Clanton Lions Club.

As has been the case in the past, the Lions Club sold ads for the game program, while the Clanton Evening Lions Club will handle the gate and concessions.

Both groups use the event as a fundraiser for Alabama Sight.

Admission will be $5.

A game pitting players from Chilton and Shelby counties against each other will be played at noon at Jack Hayes Field in Clanton. Shelby versus Autauga will follow at 2 p.m., and Chilton versus Autauga will be the last game, at 3:30 p.m.

The six-inning games will have a time limit of 1:30.

In the past, outstanding players from the game have advanced to a regional game and then to a state game. But with no game at the state level this year, the local game will instead conclude with Most Valuable Players being named from each of the three teams.

Every player will be given at least five innings of play, not including pitching.

The Chilton County roster—with positions played, year in school and team representing—will include:

•Sawyer Cahalane, catcher/third base/first base/pitcher, junior, Isabella

•Chance Calloway, pitcher, senior, Chilton County High School

•Alex Campbell, third base/pitcher, junior, Jemison
