John Carson Ray

John Carson Ray, 86, a resident of Prattville died peacefully on Thursday, May 12, 2011, after an extended illness.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, May 15, 2011, at 2:30 p.m. from the Chapel of Prattville Memorial, with the Rev. Glenn Brock and the Rev. Dave McLemore officiating. Burial will follow, with military honors, in Prattville Memory Gardens. Prattville Memorial Chapel directing.

Mr. Ray was a World War II veteran who proudly served his country in the United States Army. Following his military service, he was employed with the Montgomery Water Works Board, from which he retired after many years.

He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who was dearly loved and will be deeply missed.

He was preceded in death by two wives, Agnes Laverne Foshee Ray and Mary Evelyn “Mickey” Hughes Ray; one infant son, John Michael Ray; his parents, Lonnie and Beadie Powell Ray; four sisters, Ester Traywick, Clara Deavers, Ruth Wiggins and Addie Wyatt; and two brothers, Homer Ray and J.B. Ray.

He is survived by his present wife, Judy K. Ray; two daughters, Joan (Joel) Cox and Susan (Donnie) McBrayer; two sons, Richard (Becky) Ray and Phil Ray; two step-daughters, Tracey (Jack) Miller and Kelly Ozley; seven grandchildren, Christy (Jeff) Beasley, Tommy Boyer, Blake (Alison) Ray, Brian (Dela) McBrayer, Joe (Amanda Cox, Stacy (Otis) Smith and Alicia (Randy) Mills; four step-grandchildren, Andrea and Logan Miller, Landon and Tenneyson Ozley; five great-grandchildren, Brooke, Kendall and Cameron Beasley, John Carson McBrayer, and Alexis Hamrick; two sisters, Gattie Mullins and Wilma Owens; and one brother, Thomas Aubrey Ray.

Pallbearers will be Brian McBrayer, Joe Cox, Blake Ray, Jeff Beasley, Otis Smith and Randy Mills.

Flowers will be accepted or memorial donations may be sent to the charity of one’s choice.

The family will received friends at Prattville Memorial Chapel on Saturday evening from 5-7 p.m.
