CES sponsoring book drive for destroyed libraries

Clanton Elementary School is sponsoring a book drive to collect children’s books for two Tuscaloosa elementary schools that lost everything in last week’s tornado.

Despite starting just two days ago, the drive has already collected more than 200 books from CES students and teachers.

“I was trying to think of something that our school kids could relate to, and so far it has been a great turnout,” said Janet Holsenback, Clanton Elementary School teacher and organizer of the drive.

Anyone in the community is welcome to donate new or gently used books to help with the relief effort.

“I know it takes teachers a long time to build up a classroom library in the schools,” said Holsenback. “They spend a lot out of pocket. This drive will help replenish the classroom teachers’ books that have been destroyed so children can continue to learn through reading.”

Clanton Elementary will collect books for the drive until Monday, May 16.  Books may be dropped off at the school or contact Janet Holsenback at the school at 205-280-2730.
