Vernell Cofer Smitherman, 84, of Thorsby died Monday, May 2, 2011.
She was born Saturday, June 5, 1926, in Chilton County, daughter of the late Joe Chapman and the late Ethel Crumpton Chapman.
She was a cosmetologist.
Surviving are her son, Richard “Rick” (Phyllis) Cofer of Isabella; grandson, Trevor Cofer of Isabella; two sisters, Annie (J.P.) Waldrop of Jemison and Katherine (J.C.) Smith of Jemison; brother, Gerald (Jeanette) Chapman of Randolph; three stepsons, Kenny Smitherman of Austel, Ga., Tom (Elaine) Smitherman of Snellville, Ga., Ronnie Smitherman of Marietta, Ga.; step-granddaughter, Delynn Smitherman of Austel, Ga.; step-granddaughter, Lisa (Gary) Ward of Snellville, Ga.; and stepdaughters, Linda and Ann Mays.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn Smitherman; father, Joe Chapman; mother, Ethel Chapman; sister, Edna Dutton; and sister, Lisse Hooper.
Friends will be received from 5-8 p.m., Wednesday, May 4 at Union Springs Baptist Church.
Services will be held Thursday, May 5 at 11 a.m. at Union Springs Baptist with the Rev. Evie Megginson officiating.
Interment will follow in Union Springs Cemetery in Randolph.
