More people, churches, businesses and organizations in Chilton County are coming together to help the victims of Wednesday’s tornadoes.

Beau’s Po Boys at 310 6th St. S. in Clanton is donating 10 percent of its sales to the United Way in Central Alabama to try to make a difference for those in need.

“We’re victims of (Hurricane) Katrina, so we know how the victims feel,” said Diane Knighten, co-owner of the restaurant. “United Way helped us, and we know there are others out there who are in need of help at this time.”

Bethsalem Baptist Church, in partnership with the Alabama Baptist State Convention, has set up “Help & Hope for the Storms Of Life” Disaster Relief. They will begin accepting donations Saturday, April 30 from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m.; Sunday, May 1 from 2-5 p.m.; Monday, May 2 – Wednesday, May 4 from 8 a.m. – 6 p.m.

The items will be delivered to the areas of greatest need as directed by the Alabama Baptist State Convention, which is coordinating much of the disaster relief in the state.

Items can be dropped off at Bethsalem Baptist Church located at 2990 County Road 24 in Billingsley.

The church is accepting bottled water, sports drinks, peanut butter and jelly, rolls of tarp or tarps, individual snacks like fruit cups, power bars, etc., toiletries, first aid items, coolers (coolers will not be returned), diapers, wipes, formula, etc.

Those who are willing are asked to bring items as soon as possible so they can deliver as quickly as possible to those who are in need.

Also, trailers and trucks are needed to store and transport these items. If you are able to help with that, contact the church immediately.

Directions: Take Enterprise Road (County Road 49) south from Clanton until it dead ends. Turn right onto County Road 24, and it is located 2 miles on the left. For more information or questions, visit www.bethsalem.net or email: Brad@bethsalem.net or call 205-755-1413.

Those wishing to aid the disaster relief effort may also give by visiting www.alsbom.org/tornadorelief and make a donation there or by mail. Checks are payable to State Board of Missions, P.O. Box 11870, Montgomery, AL 36111-0870. Please note “Alabama tornado relief” on the check.

All funds (100 percent) marked for Alabama Tornado Relief will be used for assisting victims and churches.

EZ On Your Pocket Detailing is also taking donations for the storm victims. Water, food and personal items are being collected.
