Clanton Elementary will host a Hoedown for Hope featuring a 5k walk (3.1 miles) /run and 1-mile fun walk/run to benefit the American Cancer Society.

The route participants will take will be around all Clanton schools beginning at 8 a.m.

This is the second year the school has held this event, raising $1,200 last year.

“It’s a great fundraiser and is more family–oriented – it’s not designed for a serious runner,” said Renee Ousley, Clanton Elementary teacher and coordinator of the event. “It’s very laid-back. We will not announce a winner because we’re doing it for health and profiting a great cause as well.”

This year, a large poster will feature the names of people who are being honored or remembered by the walk/run participants.

“We want people to get out and just move and not be intimidated by the running part of the event,” said Ousley. “A lot of families get out there with their children. It’s all about raising money for a great cause.”

Currently, 60-70 people have signed up to participate in the event.  Music, food and door prizes will be provided.

Door prizes were donated by Durbin Farms Market, Peach Park, Edward’s Jewelers, Heaton Pecan Farm, Southern Belle Boutique, Cornerstone Fitness & Wellness, and Blackwell Nursery.

The cost to participate is $15 for the 5k or $10 for the 1 mile.
