Relay for Life draws near

With 22 days left until Relay For Life, groups and participants are putting on numerous fundraising events.

“The fundraisers are going very well, and we’ve reached our goal for sponsorship,” said Ann Glasscock, Relay For Life chairwoman. “I’ve heard some teams have actually surpassed their goals already.”

Currently, the walk has raised $10,140.74 and has 248 participants and 41 teams.

“I’m happy we have raised the amount of money we have because of the tough economic times right now,” said Glasscock. “It just goes to show how supportive Chilton County is of Relay For Life.”

The next captain meeting will be Wednesday, April 13. Captains will choose their campsites during that time, said Glasscock.

Bank night, where other money raised will be turned in and T-Shirts will be distributed to the individuals who collected more than $100, will be held on Thursday, April 28.

“We want to stress to any cancer survivor, on a team or not, make sure they register because we want all to be recognized,” said Glasscock. “They’ve been through a tough time, and we want to order T-shirts and show them recognition.”
