The Chilton County Commission is preparing to move forward with the Chilton Clanton Public Library roof replacement project as discussed at the commission meeting Monday night.

“We need to do something because it is important to the county to get it fixed,” said Commissioner Greg Moore.

Discussion in regard to replacing the leaky roof began in November 2010.

Commissioner Joe Headley volunteered to speak with Clanton Mayor Billy Joe Driver to discuss financial assistance from the city with the project.

Commissioner Red Turnipseed made a motion to have Walter McKee, architect for McKee and Associates in Montgomery, come back and give specs and look into moving the two heating and cooling systems from the roof to the ground.

McKee is performing numerous roofing jobs for the Chilton County Board of Education and proposed his assistance with the roofing project last month. The motion was approved unanimously.

In other business, the commission accepted the nomination for Attorney John Hollis Jackson III to serve on the Mental Health Board of Chilton and Shelby County.

The next Alabama Pipeline Awareness Safety Meeting will be held in Prattville on March 30.

The commission will have a work session April 7 at 6 p.m. at the courthouse.
