Dr. Van Thomas Greene Sr.

Dr. Van Thomas Greene Sr., age 80, of Clanton, went to be with his Lord and Savior on the 21st day of March, 2011.

He was born Nov. 8, 1930, in Weogufka to Keener and Carrie Greene.

He attended the University of Alabama and the University of Alabama School of Dentistry, graduating in 1957 with a Doctorate of Dental Medicine.  He served in the U.S. Army in Honolulu, Hawaii. In 1960, he returned to Birmingham where he practiced dentistry for 27 years. He moved his dental practice to Thorsby in 1987 where he practiced dentistry for 24 years.  He was a member of First Baptist Church Thorsby.

He was preceded in death by his father, Keener M. Greene.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Betty Shaneyfelt Greene; daughters, Donna Moseley of Clanton and Elizabeth (George) Dansby of Clanton; son, Van Thomas Greene Jr. of Alabaster; five grandchildren and one great grandchild; mother, Carrie Greene of Springville; brother, John (Frances) Greene of Springville; and sister, Kay Greene Johnson of Springville.

The family would like to express heartfelt thanks to the staff at Baptist Medical Center-Shelby and Golden Living Center.

Services were Wednesday, March 23 at 2 p.m. at Thorsby First Baptist Church with the Rev. Von McQueen officiating.
