Isabella comeback falls short at Reeltown

Isabella’s softball team lost a heartbreaker, 7-6, at Reeltown on March 4.
The veteran Rebels took advantage of a young Mustangs team and scored on virtually every miscue by the IHS defense.
Three errors in the first inning allowed four runs to cross the plate, and two more miscues in the second allowed the hosts to take a 5-1 lead.
The Rebels added another run in the third, but the Mustangs (3-1) finally settled down to play ball in the fourth inning.
Neither team scored in the fouth or fifth innings, but Isabella catcher Kaylynn Culp gunned down a runner attempting to steal second to end the fifth inning on a beautiful throw to Allison Mims covering second.
In the sixth inning, the wheels came off the Rebels’ pitching as the Mustangs sent 12 batters to the plate and scored six runs on four base hits, three walks, two hit batters and an error.
In the bottom of the inning, Reeltown managed to score the go-ahead run to retake the lead.
IHS could not manage a game tying run in its final at-bat.
Chelsea Cox took the loss but recorded five strikeouts.
Cox went 4-for-4 at the plate and was also helped by Kacie Adams (1-for-3) and Kristin Adams (1-for-4).
Sarah Woolridge took two walks.
Isabella visits Vincent at 4 p.m. Tuesday.
