Chilton County’s junior varsity softball team won a tournament it hosted Saturday with a 10-9 victory over Thorsby.

The Tigers defeated Thorsby, 10-1, in the first game of the tournament but faced the Rebels again later in the day for the championship.

CCHS built a 10-2 lead after four innings, but Thorsby clawed back into the game, cutting the lead to one run going into the final inning.

But Chilton’s Kricket Caton—pitching in relief of Kristen Binion, who started all four games her team won—struck out the side to preserve the win.

Both Binion and Gabrielle Kelley had two hits in the championship game for CCHS.

Taylor McManus started all four games in the tournament for Thorsby.

She went 7-for-12 at the plate on the day, and teammate Josie Adams went 7-for-9 in four games.
