Two Chilton County High School wrestlers lost on Feb. 19 in the finals for their respective weight classes, but the team still finished No. 9 in Class 5A.

CCHS seniors Colby Bernier and Dylan Jackson put forth admirable efforts in their matches, both losing decisions by a combined five points.

Bernier, competing at state for the third consecutive year, fell to Tallassee’s Chris Adams, 3-2, in the 160-pound weight class.

Jackson lost a 3-2 decision to Scottsboro’s Alex Whigham in the 189-pound class.

Bernier and Jackson, along with fellow state qualifiers Caleb Mims and Matt Thomas, helped CCHS to a top-10 finish in 5A.

The Tigers ended the state meet with 32 points, six points away from eighth-place Pinson Valley.

Arab won the team state championship with 137.5 points.

Mims lost twice on Feb. 18, the first day of the event, and Thomas went 1-2.

Both Mims and Thomas are seniors.

Bernier won twice on Feb. 18, as did Jackson, who finished with a team-best 42-6 record.
