Jefferson State Community College will be hosting a ribbon-tying ceremony in celebration of the grand opening of its multi-purpose Economic Development Center (EDC) on Tuesday, March 1 at 11 a.m.

Along with college officials, representatives from the city of Clanton will be in attendance to help commemorate the new facility.

The ceremony will take place in the upper lobby in the center’s performance hall.

“It’s such an opportunity for Clanton,” said Sandy Stevens, EDC event coordinator. “It’s a venue that is going to bring people from around the state and region to Clanton, and they will realize what is all here.”

Jefferson State President Judy Merritt and Clanton Mayor Billy Joe Driver will offer a few comments regarding the EDC and perform the ribbon tying.

“This remarkable facility will provide many opportunities for the community to attend performances, trade shows and much more,” said Merritt. “Jefferson State is proud to have worked with the city council, community leaders and so many others to make the facility a reality.”

The EDC will not only provide space for events, but it will also bring in revenue to Clanton.

“It is called the EDC because Clanton wanted to bring economic development here,” said Stevens. “People will go to restaurants, gas stations and Peach Park and they will spend money, which will help Clanton grow economically.”

The facility offers a modern performance hall with seating for 608, a 13,000-square foot exhibit hall and three training rooms that can accommodate 24-40 people. The EDC will be operated by Jefferson State.

“All space is flexible, we can accommodate anyone from anywhere,” said Stevens. “It has state-of-the-art sound, lighting and acoustics. The stage floor was built for dancers and performances, but everyone can use it. I love this facility and I’m so proud to represent it.”

The EDC is supported by the city of Clanton, Jefferson State and groups who rent the facility for trade shows, performances and trainings.

Tours of the facility will be given after the ribbon tying and refreshments will be served.
