The grand jury reported to Judge Sibley G. Reynolds they heard 236 cases and returned 161 true bills in circuit court here last Friday.

The jury also reviewed audits completed by the Examiner of Public Accounts on the Chilton County Board of Education and the Judicial Administration Fund and found no indictable offenses.

The rest of the jury’s report addresses themes common to previous juries — they thanked law enforcement officers for the job they do and addressed the need for extensive renovations at the Chilton County Courthouse.

The entire report as given to Judge Reynolds is printed below:

“During our deliberations, we heard 236 cases and are returning 161 true bills.

We are grateful to the law enforcement officers who presented the cases to us for their courage, commitment to a demanding job and bravery in the line of duty. They were all knowledgeable and well prepared.

“We toured the Chilton County Jail and found the staff to be professional and hard-working. The facility is in functioning order.

“We also had the opportunity to observe the Chilton County Courthouse and found the structure to be in disrepair. We would like to point out that the women’s restroom on the bottom floor, although very clean, is in need of renovation.

“We want to commend the courthouse custodian, Michelle Wilson, for the excellent work she does keeping the building clean, especially considering the condition it is in.

“We note that the judicial space is inadequate for all the court’s business.

“We recommend that the Chilton County Commission add much needed court, office, parking and storage space. We request that the commission also consider the construction of a new judicial complex.

“We reviewed the audit reports done by the Examiner of Public Accounts on the Chilton County Board of Education and the Judicial Administration Fund. We found no indictable offenses.
