Carrie Mae Woods Gray

Carrie Mae Woods Gray, 86, of Clanton died Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2011, at Shelby Baptist Medical Center in Alabaster.

She was born Tuesday, Jan. 20, 1925, in Walker County, daughter of the late Benjamin Nathan Lewis and the late Myrtle Butler Lewis.

She was a retired nurse.  She was the first nurse practitioner in Chilton County and was a volunteer for mental health.

Surviving are three daughters, Margaret Burgess of Clanton, Andrea (Ray) West of Clanton and Amy (Russell) Pignataro of Clanton; three sisters, Jill (Don) Potts of Birmingham, Edna Humphries of Helena and Nadine Varner of Jasper; two brothers, Charles (Cookie) Lewis of Pinson and Roy Lewis of Rustin, La.; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received from 5-8 p.m., Friday, Feb. 11 at Martin Chapel.

Services will be held Saturday, Feb. 12, at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Jay Hurd officiating.

Interment will follow in Martin Memorial Cemetery in Clanton.
