James Arthur Baker

James Arthur Baker, 89, of Isabella passed away Monday, Jan. 31, 2011, at Shelby Baptist Medical Center in Alabaster.

He was born Feb. 28, 1921, in Chilton County.  He was the son of the late Luchion Zachary Baker and the late Lizzie Coleman Hilyer Baker.

He was a homebuilder. He was a member of the Isabella Volunteer Fire Department for many years and a proud World War II Army veteran.  He served in North Africa and Europe from 1942-1945.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Willie Charles Baker; sisters, Frankie Nell Baker and Bobbie Varden; and brother, Joe Earl Baker.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Ann Baker of Isabella; sons, James Edward Baker (Rachel), William Arthur Baker, Roger Dale Baker (Pamela) and daughter, Donna Jo Baker, all of Isabella; grandchildren, Amy Miller (Lynn) of Isabella, Stacy Hollon (Chase) of Clanton, Jason Baker, Brianna Baker and Britton Baker, all of Isabella; and great grandchildren, Cameron Connell, Krystal Connell, Jacob Miller, Jonah Miller, Hailie Hollon, Courtney Connell, Madison Hollon and Eli Miller.

Visitation will be Wednesday, Feb. 2 from 5-8 p.m. at Martin Funeral Home Chapel.

Services will be Thursday, Feb. 3 at 1 p.m. at Martin Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Thomas Earl Hilyer officiating.

Interment will follow at Highland Baptist Cemetery.
