Jemison’s boys basketball team made 12 free throws in 14 attempts on Friday to win at Montevallo, 45-39.

The Panthers led 13-4 after one period, thanks to three 3-pointers by Trey Bryant, but the hosts outscored JHS 9-1 in the second period and went on a 10-0 run to begin the second half.

“They picked up the defensive intensity, and we didn’t respond very well,” Jemison Coach Stacy McGehee said.

But the Panthers showed life, going on a 7-1 run to end the third period, and used clutch free throws in the fourth to pull out a win.

Trey Bryant led Jemison with 21 points. Jesse Taylor recorded five steals and three assists in the second half.

Jemison’s girls team, meanwhile, hung with Montevallo until being outscored 13-2 in the third period.

Montevallo won, 43-25, though the score was 26-17 at halftime.

Shelby Griffin scored a team-high 10 points for Jemison.
