The Clanton Fire Department is looking to expand — the city council voted Monday to take applications for three on-call firefighters. The fire department currently has 19 firefighters.

The council also voted to change the application for firefighters. During their one-year probationary period, firefighters must complete 20 hours per month of volunteer hours at the fire station.

Fire Chief David Driver said the hours would help improve the city’s ISO by meeting a requirement for recruit training and familiarize new firefighters with the trucks and equipment.

The council also approved sending Cameron Bates to Alabama Fire College next month.

In other business, the council took the following actions:

•Transferred the alcohol license for Friends Sports Café to Matthew Lee Galusha.

•Hired Jason Edwards to work part-time in the city’s senior center.

•Set up a pruning class for city workers and master gardeners. Mayor Billy Joe Driver said the class would cost approximately $500.
