Billy Joe “BJ” Lockhart, 57, of Clanton died Saturday, Jan. 22, 2011, at UAB in Birmingham.

He was born Thursday, July 6, 1953, in Chilton County, son of the late Reedie Lockhart and the late Jewel Marie Littleton Lockhart.

He was a racecar driver.

Surviving are his wife, Melissa Lockhart of Clanton; daughter, Britney Lockhart of Clanton; two sons, Brandon Lockhart of Clanton and Bobby Joe Lockhart of Clanton; four brothers, Jimmy Lockhart of Clanton, Ray Lockhart of Clanton, Bobby Lane Lockhart of Clanton and Jeff Lockhart of Thorsby; three sisters, Linda Kay Mims of Clanton, Dian Robinson of Clanton and Patricia Smith of Thorsby; and step-grandson, Braxden Giles of Clanton.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Reedie and Jewel Lockhart; and brother, Jerry Lockhart.

Services were held Monday, Jan. 24 at 11 a.m. at Martin Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Thurmond Cleckler officiating.

Interment will follow in Martin Memorial Cemetery in Clanton.
