West End Baptist Church held the Donny Martin Day blood drive Sunday afternoon in the church’s old fellowship fall.

The drive took place in the church’s old fellowship hall from noon to 5 p.m.

More that 50 donors attended the event and 47 units of blood were collected from noon until 5 p.m.

“That’s a tremendous amount in five hours,” said the Rev. Tony Smitherman. “Donny Martin Day was a great day here at West End Baptist Church. We were well pleased.”

The blood drive is named after Donny Martin, one of Chilton County’s most devoted donors, who has donated more than 20 gallons of blood since 1957.
