By the end of January, Thorsby’s police patrol cars are expected to be equipped with the latest technology.

The Thorsby Police Department received two Dell ATG laptops for two of their police cruisers. The computers were made available to the Alabama Criminal Justice Information Center (ACJIC) through a Bureau of Justice Assistance grant.

A $25,000 grant will also be used to purchase the in-car video cameras.

“The week of the 24th (January), the person will be here to install video cameras in five cars,” said Police Chief Rodney Barnett. “It’s a win-win situation and good for us and the public.”

Upon installation of the computers, all of the department’s police vehicles will be equipped.

Without the assistance of the ACJIC, the computers along with software and other equipment would have cost the town approximately $6,000.
