Doris Reed Byrd, 92, of Clanton died Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2011, at Mount Royal Towers in Vestavia Hills.

She was born July 13, 1918, in Surginer, Marengo County, Alabama to the late Thomas Bennie “Ben” Reed and the late Lillian Strickland Reed.

She was a teacher and homemaker.

Surviving are her two sons, James C. (Anne) Byrd of Roswell, Ga. and Albert D. (Elizabeth) Byrd of Clanton; one grandson, John M. (Michelle) Byrd of Westmont, N.J.; two step-grandchildren, Daniel J. Spanier and Kathryn L. Spanier; one great-grandson, Tucker James Byrd; and one brother, Thomas Benjamin “T.B.” Reed.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Isaac C. Byrd; brother, Payton M. “Buddy” Reed; sister, Maurine Reed “Sister” Guin; sister, Ethel Reed Ethridge; sister, Myrtle Reed “Doll Baby” Cannon; brother, Millard “Sonny Boy” Reed; and brother, Dillard Curven Reed.

Friends will be received from 4-6 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 8 at Martin Funeral Home Chapel.

Services will be held Sunday, Jan. 9 at 2:30 p.m. at Martin Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Larry Anderson officiating.
