John Christopher “Chris” Gaines, 36, of Jemison died Monday, Jan. 3, 2011, at Shelby Baptist Medical Center in Alabaster.

He was born Wednesday, Dec. 11, 1974, in Chilton County, son of John R. Gaines Jr. and Becky Lucas.

Surviving are his mother, Becky Lucas of Jemison; brother, Jonathan Gaines of Jemison; father, John R. (Betty) Gaines of Jemison; three step-brothers, Kevin Walker of Jemison, Steve Lucas of Columbiana and Jason Lucas of Alabaster; two step-sisters, Katrina Walker of Jemison and Gina Lucas of Helena; grandfather, R.C. Henry of Clanton; and great grandmother, Louise Emfinger of Jemison.

He was preceded in death by his stepfather, Jimmy Lucas and grandparents.

Friends will be received from 5-8 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 5 at Martin Funeral Home Chapel.

Services will be held Thursday, Jan. 6 at 9 a.m. at Martin Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Greg Thurman officiating.

Interment will follow in Providence No. 1 Cemetery in Jemison.
