Mr. Glenn Cates, 56, Jonesborough, Tenn. passed away Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2010, at his residence.

Although he was born in Rockhill, S.C., he spent the majority of his life in Las Cruces, N.M.  Mr. Cates worked as a salesman but found success and satisfaction in his life as an alcohol education instructor in Las Cruces until his illness in 2003.

He has lived in Jonesborough with his surviving sister, Elizabeth Cates, Ph.D. and his mother, Betsy Glenn Cates, since 2006.

He was the son of the late Robert V. Cates and is also survived by his niece, Robin Simpkins, DVM and her husband, Alan Simpkins, DVM; his great-niece, Marin Simpkins; and his best friend and constant companion, his cat, Nikki.
