The Clanton City Council held a public hearing on a rezoning request during its Monday meeting.

The request would have rezoned 2110 Holiday Drive from R-1 (residential) to B-2 (business/commercial).

The council voted unanimously to follow the zoning board’s recommendation to deny the request.

In other business, the council took the following actions:

•The council awarded a bid to replace the bridge on Eighth Street below Rolling Oaks and a culvert on Dunlap Drive to Tri County Construction out of Hamilton for $529,000.

•Approved sending City Clerk Debbie Orange to the Master Municipal Clerk Academy, to be held in January in Tuscaloosa.
•Had a first reading concerning granting a beer and wine license to Quickstop on U.S. 31 in Lomax.

The store currently has a license but is under new ownership. The license still has to be granted at a subsequent council meeting.
•Voted to move its next council meeting from Monday, Dec. 27 to Tuesday, Dec. 28 at 5 p.m. at Clanton City Hall.
