Winter wonderland at Jemison First Baptist

Everyone is invited to experience Chilton County’s winter wonderland next Wednesday and Thursday, Dec. 8-9.

Jemison First Baptist Church will be holding their second Annual Winter Wonderland Christmas Walk at the church’s Family Life Center.

There will be five rooms with different themes to journey through including: the Nativity, angels, Santa, snowmen, Christmas village and sweet shop.

“We’re going to change them up this year,” said Bob Stephens, Minister of Music and Youth, referring to the different scenes. “I think I’m going to combine the Nativity and the angels to be in one room to show more of what the angels have to do with the birth of Christ. We’re tying in the real meaning of Christmas as well and fun stuff too.”

The event is being held earlier this year so it will not be rushed and interfere with school or other Christmas parties, said Stephens.

The gym will be embellished with Christmas decorations, and there will be inflatables and Christmas trees inside.

The entertainment for the holiday event will include: Tammy McGriff and her dancers on Thursday at 6:30 p.m., the hand-bells will be played Wednesday at 6:30 p.m., and teenagers from the church will put on a puppet show.

“I just wanted to give a gift to the community and share the story of the birth of Christ,” said Stephens. “We just want to show them that we care and we are here.”

The entire Christmas display will take about five days to set up with the help of about 12-15 people, but Stephens hopes to have more help setting up this year.

“I just want to invite everyone to come out and experience it,” Stephens said. “Bring your families and tell everyone you know.”
The church is located on Highway 31 in Jemison.
