The Clanton/Chilton County chapter of the NAACP provided turkeys and hams to 10 local families for Thanksgiving this year.

Ben Chaney, NAACP Clanton/Chilton County chapter president and Robert and Lucy Binion distributed the turkeys and hams Friday, Nov. 19.

“I was glad to give them out,” said Chaney. “It was just good to see the expressions on their faces.”

This is the first year the organization has given out turkeys; usually around this time the organization awards scholarships to local students, said Phyllis Dickerson, executive board member.

“I just thank God for us being able to give back and I thank all of the members of the NAACP,” said Chaney. “I want to give a special thanks to Mr. and Mrs. Robert and Lucy Binion because they helped deliver the turkeys and hams and Lucy took the photos.”

The families include: Inez Maul, Cindy Lucas, Lakeshia Davis, James Lawley, Laura Hopgood, Willie Mitchell, Bill Crockett, Martha Williams, Reuben Edwards and Laura Bailey.
