Merry Christmas! Tanisha Nunn, a Jemison fourth grader, visits with Santa following the city’s Christmas tree lighting Tuesday night.

The city of Jemison’s tree lighting was Tuesday night, giving a bright spot to an otherwise dark and cold night.

Jemison Girl Scout Troop 7012 braved a light rain to sing Christmas carols for the crowd. The tree is located on U.S. 31 in front of the Jemison Municipal Complex. Santa also made a surprise appearance on a Jemison fire truck.

After the lighting and songs, visitors enjoyed coffee, hot chocolate and baked goods in the Jemison Municipal Complex.

Other Christmas events continue this week with the Clanton tree lighting Thursday night at 6:30 p.m., with live entertainment a half an hour before. Three more Christmas parades are schedule for this week, too: Clanton’s parade will be Friday at 6 p.m., Jemison’s parade will be Saturday at 2 p.m. and Thorsby’s parade will be Saturday at 4:30 p.m. Maplesville kicked the season off with their tree lighting and parade last Saturday, Nov. 24
